Board of Health bans kratom products effective June 1

Wakefield Health Board votes 2-1 to ban kratom products. Chair Candace Linehan, Vice Chair Marcy McCauley, and Member Elaine Silva heard public testimony on personal losses and adverse health effects, and reviewed FDA advisories on kratom risks. Member Silva moved the regulation, which prohibits natural and synthetic kratom effective June 1.

The board also unanimously approved two variances for a septic system upgrade at 389 Salem Street, allowing front-yard installation to protect nearby wetlands.
