Board of Health discusses rodenticide restrictions, defers vote

Board of Health · Meeting of May 20, 2026

WAKEFIELD — Board of Health discusses rodenticide restrictions, defers formal action. Candace Linehan, Chair, led discussion of a draft policy to prohibit second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides on all town-owned properties including buildings, parks, and municipal lands. Health Director Anthony Chui, who serves Melrose, Stoneham, and Wakefield, presented the policy framework with a waiver process for public health emergencies requiring Board approval and public notification.

The Board also discussed Amendment 3 of the Mass Ready Act, which would allow municipalities to restrict anticoagulant rodenticides on private property without a home rule petition, agreeing to vote on both measures at a future meeting.
