Cable committee coordinates high school fiber, prepares contract negotiations

WAKEFIELD — Cable Advisory Committee reviews high school fiber installation progress, prepares for upcoming contract negotiations. RCN and Verizon fiber installations are complete at Wakefield Memorial High School; Comcast remains in progress. Verizon and Comcast contracts expire next year, with potential 5- to 10-year extensions under discussion, while RCN's renewal is due in four years.

Chair Daniel P. Lieber will consult with the town attorney about WCAT funding, and Executive Director Ian McDermot will meet with Town Administrator Denise Casey regarding franchise fee negotiations. The committee also noted that as of April 2028, closed captioning and descriptive audio will be mandatory on cable systems.
