WAKEFIELD — Cable Advisory Committee held public hearings on license renewals for Comcast and Verizon. Daniel P. Lieber, Chair, noted the current 4.5 percent franchise fee applies only to television revenues; streaming income is not counted.
WCAT, the local cable access service, relies on these fees but faces sustainability concerns as revenues decline. Comcast/Xfinity representative Kerry Morris attended via Zoom; Verizon sent no representative. The committee voted unanimously to open and close both hearings and discussed potential implications if Verizon did not renew.
