The Commission on Disabilities unanimously authorized ADA Coordinator William Renault to request $50,000 in fiscal year funding for accessibility improvements, with immediate focus on the Senior Center's rear entrance, which has curbing, uneven pavement, and lighting issues affecting residents with vision and mobility disabilities. The commission also advanced the ACE building elevator or lift project through an Americans with Disabilities Act grant-writing effort.
Additional 2026 priorities include confirming a flashing traffic light on North Avenue, assessing hearing access at the Galvin school, monitoring accessibility systems at newly constructed Wakefield Memorial High School and Vocational Technical schools, and reinstalling an accessible playground swing at Dolbeare Park.
