Conservation Commission Schedules July 7 Virtual Hearing on Proposed Wetlands Bylaw
With Independence Day a week out and a new wetlands protection proposal on the horizon, Wakefield's town calendar is filling fast heading into July.

Wakefield's Conservation Commission will hold a virtual public information presentation on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 7 p.m. to introduce a proposed Wetlands Protection Bylaw. The session is designed to walk residents through the draft before any formal action is taken.
Meanwhile, the town has published its Independence Day activity schedule and parking information on the municipal website ahead of the July 4 celebrations. Residents planning to attend events around Lake Quannapowitt are encouraged to review the details in advance.
Looking further ahead, the town has announced that Town Day on the Common is set for Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. Organizations and vendors interested in participating can find information on the town's website.
A new display has also opened at the Americal Civic Center: the uniform of Pfc. Joseph E. Rapallo, a World War II veteran, is now on view in the Heritage Room, donated by the veteran's family.

Today at 2 p.m., the Opera Club of Wakefield meets at Lucius Beebe Memorial Library for its regular gathering — a chance for members to listen, share, and explore opera performances past and present.
The library's summer adult programming continues to build out. The Libraryland summer reading game is underway for adults, and a Music Bingo event is on the schedule for the coming weeks. Plaza Jazz returns on Thursday, July 9, at 6 p.m., with Annie and the Fur Trappers performing on the library plaza; INspire Cafe will offer refreshments. On July 14 at 7 p.m., bestselling author Karin Slaughter will appear for a virtual author talk focused on her North Falls series — registration is open on the library's website.
