Council approves $728,461.59 salary contingency budget and multiple departmental cuts.

Wakefield Town Council approves salary contingency budget and multiple fiscal 2027 cuts. Chair Mehreen N. Butt and the Council unanimously approved a $728,461.59 salary contingency line for anticipated union increases and voted on departmental reductions totaling $210,000 in operational cuts.

Town Treasurer Edward F. Dombroski Jr. reported approximately $4,124,000 in bank account interest earned in fiscal 2026, including $1,842,000 from high school bond accounts. The Council voted 6 to 1 to reduce a Parking Lots Construction Warrant Article from $350,000 to $100,000 and unanimously rescinded a $150,000 Building Space and Capital Needs Assessment Warrant Article.

Town Meeting is set for May 4, 2026.
