Wakefield Economic Development Council elects new officers, abandons teacher gift card plan. Ally Houghton was unanimously elected chair and Ann Hadley vice chair during the February 5 meeting. The council decided not to move forward with a $2,400 gift card program for Galvin Middle School staff after town counsel flagged labor law concerns, collective bargaining risks, and equity questions.
The council also discussed allocating approximately $52,000 in remaining ARPA funding, which must be spent by year-end 2026, with potential uses including extending Project Pop-Up and launching a storefront consulting program.
