Council on Aging approves budgets, discusses service expansion

WAKEFIELD — Council on Aging approves budgets, plans service expansion. The Wakefield Council on Aging unanimously approved its November and December 2025 financial reports, both showing the budget on track with $4,009.70 remaining in the fund. Director Karen Burke reported the department is planning to increase driving schedules to 4.5 hours five days a week and expand outreach hours, funded in part by a $2,000 reallocation from newsletter savings.
The Department of Public Works is proceeding with $75,000 in HVAC improvements to provide air conditioning to the Senior Center's second floor. The Council discussed formation of a Friends of Council on Aging support group, with plans to explore reactivating a 20-year-old Friends group charter.
