WAKEFIELD — Environmental Sustainability Committee allocates $251 for black plastic recycling. Chair Tiana Veldwisch and seven members unanimously approved the allocation on a motion from Willy Chung and seconded by Vice Chair Melissa Eusden to fund a drop-off box at the August 29 sports equipment swap, with the committee noting RDP grant money as a backup funding source if needed. The committee also discussed low-waste strategies for Town Day on the Common scheduled September 26, including obtaining a water truck, promoting reusable bottles, and encouraging vendors to use compostable plates.
Veldwisch committed to contacting the Chamber of Commerce to coordinate sustainability efforts at the event. WMGLD Representative Lili Allen reported on an opening event at Burns Park and ongoing micro grid work at the high school. DPW Representative Ann Waitt announced that the town will rebid its trash and recycling contract, with interviews scheduled for September and a contract decision targeted for town meeting.
