ESC targets Net Zero by 2050 through Climate Leader pathway

WAKEFIELD — Environmental Sustainability Committee sets Net Zero by 2050 as core 2026 goal. Chair Tiana Veldwisch and Vice Chair Melissa Eusden led the January 15 meeting in approving prior minutes unanimously and establishing priorities for the coming year. The committee will complete a Decarbonization Roadmap and Zero Emission Vehicle fleet policy by fall to support a warrant article to the Fall 2026 Town Meeting seeking approval of Wakefield's Net Zero by 2050 commitment, a requirement for state Climate Leader certification.
Expanded initiatives include pollinator garden education, battery and electronics recycling programs, and swap and fix-it events.
