Finance Committee reviews FY 2027 budgets for eight departments.

WAKEFIELD — Finance Committee reviews FY 2027 budgets totaling $1.29 million across eight departments. Vice Chair Stefan Chase presided as Town Administrator Dee Casey outlined the budget development process, directing departments to level fund where possible and justify new spending, with health insurance rates climbing 12 percent and five unions currently in contract negotiations. Town Accountant Liz Rourke will review all budgets for accuracy and consolidation discrepancies.

Finance Committee member Daniel W. Sherman reported that FY 2027 forecasting continues to project a $4 million deficit, with free cash exhausted by FY 2029.
