Fire Subcommittee reviews $189,000 capital request in 2027 budget.

Finance Committee · Meeting of March 5, 2026

WAKEFIELD — Fire Subcommittee examines 2027 budget with $189,000 capital request. Fire Chief Thomas Purcell presented a $140,382.09 operational increase over the prior fiscal year, or 1.79 percent, driven by $100,382.09 in personal services and smaller hikes in contractual services and materials. The department is five firefighters below its fully funded roster of 55, though four recruits are in training with one more entering the academy in June.

Capital priorities include $118,690 for two command vehicles, $61,372.27 to replace a 2011 utility truck, and $39,000 for smoke ejectors, inflatable rescue craft, and portable radios; ongoing town development may force future staffing and apparatus additions.
