Town Council To Hold Hearing On High School Basketball Court Naming
Traffic improvements begin next week at a key downtown intersection, and Wakefield's legislative delegation says it has secured $224,000 for local priorities in the newly passed state budget.

Work to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Oak Street, Green Street and Greenwood Avenue begins July 13, according to the town's News Flash feed. Residents driving through that area should expect construction activity starting Monday.
The town is also hosting a Fix-It Clinic on July 12, a community repair event where residents can bring broken household items — including small electronics, furniture, clothing, textiles, eyeglasses and jewelry — for free repair and advice, per the town's announcement. Separately, the town reiterated an extreme heat warning from the National Weather Service that began earlier this month, urging residents to take precautions during hot stretches.
The Nahant Street Yard Waste Site is open on its regular weekend and Wednesday schedule this month, including July 11, 12, 15 and 18, according to the town calendar.

The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library has a full slate of author events this month. Karin Slaughter discusses her North Falls series in a virtual author talk on July 14 at 7 p.m., and Reyna Grande will discuss her new memoir, "Migrant Heart: Essays About Things I Can't Forget," on July 16 at 2 p.m.; both require registration through the library's website.
The library's Plaza Jazz series continues July 16 at 6 p.m. with a performance by composer and guitarist Phil Sargent on the library plaza, part of the library's ongoing summer outdoor music programming.
