Wakefield School Committee adopted three student policies and tabled a fourth as the superintendent attended a state meeting. Assistant Superintendent Kara Mara presented in place of Superintendent Douglas Lyons, who met with the state secretary of education in Natick. Members voted unanimously to table the new Protect Act policy for two weeks, approve amended medication policies requiring year-end pickup, adopt an inter-district school choice policy with sibling lottery priority, and approve excessive heat guidelines.
Officials said the district's new Greenwood preschool classroom now enrolls "between 13 to 15" students, meaning roughly 13 fewer families were turned away from the waitlist this year. A separate restraint and seclusion policy was held for further wording review until the September 22 meeting. The labor and personnel subcommittee is preparing for an October 7 informal meeting with the Wakefield Education Association ahead of contract talks.
