Three Democrats Vie For Wakefield's State Senate Nomination

WAKEFIELD — Three Democrats are competing for the 5th Middlesex State Senate District nomination ahead of the Sept. 1 state primary, according to Wakefield Patch, with early voting already underway for that race and two House contests. The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library, meanwhile, closed its doors Monday for four days of HVAC repairs.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library at 345 Main St. closed Monday, Aug. 24, for HVAC work expected to keep the building shut through Thursday, Aug. 27. Library officials said Wakefield cardholders can use their cards at NOBLE network libraries in Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Lynnfield or elsewhere in the network while the repairs continue, with the library expecting to reopen that Friday.

COMING UP Wakefield's Human Rights Commission and School Committee both meet Tuesday, Aug. 25. The Housing Authority meets Wednesday, Aug. 26, followed by the Finance Committee on Thursday, Aug. 27, the same day the Beebe Library plans to reopen after its HVAC closure. The library also has an author talk with Lucy Foley set for 2 p.m. Aug. 27, and its Plaza Jazz series returns Sept. 3 with drummer Lee Fish performing on the library plaza. Early voting for the Sept. 1 state primary continues through the week.
