Town Council approves $1.998 million capital budget for fiscal year 2027

WAKEFIELD — Town Council approves $1.998 million capital budget for fiscal year 2027. The council voted unanimously to fund fleet vehicles, building upgrades, and infrastructure while deferring a $350,000 Galvin school auditorium request. Operating budgets approved for fiscal year 2027 include Retirement at $9,374,929; Veterans Department at $171,158.34; and combined Department of Public Works budgets totaling $26,183,876.
The council also unanimously approved an inter-municipal animal control agreement with Melrose and Stoneham effective May 1, 2026, and cleared warrant articles for the May 4 Annual Town Meeting addressing water mains, lead service line inventory, drainage improvements, and parking reconstruction. An all-alcohol liquor license for Sabatino's Restaurant under new ownership by employees German Melendez, Roger Lopez, and Yolani Alvarez was unanimously approved subject to state approval.
