Wakefield Town Council approves two design alternatives for downtown revitalization project. Chair Jonathan P. Chines and the council voted 5-2 to approve guidance for Alternative One (no bike lanes) at Water Street and Main Street, and 5-2 to proceed with the current 25 percent design for the Nahant, Main, and North Avenue intersection.

A motion by member John F. Carney to halt and rethink the broader initiative was withdrawn before any vote. The council unanimously approved a three-year contract with Wakefield Massachusetts Laborers District Council, Local 272, including a 2.5 percent cost-of-living adjustment for fiscal years 2027 through 2029, and set the Regular Town Meeting for November 16, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Galvin Middle School.
