Town Council approves five FY27 budgets totaling more than $10.8 million

WAKEFIELD — Town Council approves five fiscal year 2027 departmental budgets in unanimous votes. The council authorized a $630,643 Information Technology budget with a $165,029 increase driven by phone system consolidation and software training, and an $8,031,261 Police Department budget featuring a formal request for a 49th officer as call volume rose 8.3 percent last year and development is expected to add 500 to 750 residents. Chair Mehreen N.
Butt was designated Chief Executive Officer for signing all Local Initiative Program affordable housing applications. The council unanimously approved four legal instruments for the 200-400 Quannapowitt Parkway residential development, including a restrictive covenant protecting 12.7 acres as open space. The Treasury Department reported generating $5.318 million in investment revenue in 2025.
