Wakefield Town Council approves $79.5 million in fiscal year 2027 budgets and clears May 4 town meeting warrant. Chair Mehreen N. Butt presided over the unanimous approval of the Wakefield Public Schools budget of $58,601,611 (5.73 percent increase), Vocational Schools at $3,097,721, Group Health Insurance at $14,725,364, and thirteen warrant articles including $9,903,670 in debt service and a fire pumper supplemental appropriation of $50,000.
Councilor Jonathan P. Chines warned of a structural deficit totaling $1 million to $1.5 million annually, prompting Town Administrator Denise Y. Casey to schedule a Tri-Board meeting for April 15 to address town-wide budget imbalance.
