Town Council · Meeting of June 8, 2026

Wakefield Town Council approves FY27 water and sewer rates with combined customer impact of 4.3 to 5.1 percent. DPW Director Joe Conway and Business Manager Ann Waitt presented rate increases of 6 percent volumetric and 10 percent service charge for water, and 2.5 percent volumetric and 10 percent service charge for sewer, driven by MWRA assessments and capital obligations. Council members voiced concern about the flat service charge's disproportionate effect on lower-tier conservation-conscious residents and requested Conway prepare alternative rate-structure scenarios for future review, including possible restrictions on the prompt payment discount for high-consumption commercial users.

The Council also unanimously approved the Intermunicipal Agreement for the Metro North Regional Housing Services Office, appointed four members to town commissions, and approved donations totaling $20,895.68 to the library and Council on Aging.
