Town Council approves licenses for Howie's Bar and Vincent's Kitchen; seven budgets advance

Town Council · Meeting of March 9, 2026

Wakefield Town Council unanimously approved an all-alcohol liquor license, common victualler license, and entertainment license for Howie's Bar and Vincent's Kitchen at 963 Main Street, with hours aligned to the location's historical closing times. Chair Mehreen N. Butt also guided the Council to unanimous approval of seven FY27 budgets totaling $9.9 million, including the Fire Department at $7,966,688.09—a 1.79 percent increase reflecting a 13.14 percent rise in call volume during 2025.

Insurance Advisor John Spinello recommended removing property coverage on the old high school building, saving $6,200 monthly. The Council referred stormwater bylaw and zoning amendments to the Planning Board with a modification designating the Town Council rather than the Advisory Board of Public Works as the decision-maker for rare independent stormwater matters.
