WAKEFIELD — The Finance Committee's Town Hall Subcommittee reviewed departmental budgets for fiscal year 2027, approving most for level funding while identifying staffing pressures. The Election and Registration budget increased nearly 20 percent due to higher demand on election staff, while the Assessor's budget showed its largest increase in Professional Services tied to revaluation. Evan Kenney urged modest trimming of the Finance Committee budget to set a conservative tone; Don Ravenelle questioned retiree medical cost exposure, learning that the retiree population currently exceeds the active employee population.
The subcommittee scheduled its next review for February 17.
