Conservation Commission · Meeting of March 5, 2026

Wakefield Conservation board workshops wetlands bylaw, refining setback requirements and resource definitions. Members Paul F. Wendelgass (Chair), Jennifer Fanning, and Eleanor Axelrod (Vice Chair) discussed proposed changes to jurisdiction, definitions, and public-project exemptions during the working session.

Conservation Agent Ethan Fleming recommended creating separate resource-area categories with distinct setback distances. The board considered revisions treating vernal pools as jurisdictional regardless of certification, with a 100-foot setback; establishing a 25-foot setback for intermittent streams and isolated wetlands; and removing a proposed additional 100-foot riverfront buffer beyond the existing 200-foot setback.
