Wakefield Posts July 4 Schedule as Conservation Commission Plans Wetlands Bylaw Presentation
With the Fourth of July one week away, the town has published its Independence Day activity schedule and parking information — the clearest sign yet that summer is in full swing along the shores of Lake Quannapowitt.

Wakefield's Conservation Commission is preparing to introduce a proposed Wetlands Protection Bylaw, with a virtual public information presentation set for Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 7 p.m. The session is designed to walk residents through the proposed bylaw before any formal action is taken. Details are available on the town's website at wakefield.ma.us.
The town is also calling on residents and organizations to participate in Town Day on the Common, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. Vendors, groups, and community partners interested in taking part should check the town's News Flash for sign-up information.
A new display has opened in the Heritage Room at the Americal Civic Center honoring Pfc. Joseph E. Rapallo, a World War II veteran. The display features his uniform, generously donated by the Rapallo family.

Summer programming is running on all cylinders at Lucius Beebe Memorial Library. The library's adult summer reading initiative, Libraryland, is underway, and Music Bingo has been added to the summer lineup for music lovers looking for a lively evening out.
Coming up at Beebe: Plaza Jazz returns to Thursday nights on July 9 with Annie & the Fur Trappers performing outdoors; INspire Cafe will offer snacks and refreshments. On July 14 at 7 p.m., thriller author Karin Slaughter will appear in a virtual author talk focused on her North Falls series — registration is open now. Author and memoirist Reyna Grande follows on July 16 at 2 p.m., discussing her new memoir Migrant Heart: Essays About Things I Can't Forget.
