Wakefield tri-board meeting projects $1.4M FY27 budget deficit despite new investment income surge. Town Administrator Denise Y. Casey and Acting Assistant Town Administrator of Finance Elizabeth Rourke presented a revised FY27 budget to the Town Council, School Committee, and Finance Committee, disclosing investment income now projected at $2 million (up from $850,000 budgeted) plus $1.7 million from high school bond funds, yet Finance Committee member Daniel Sherman's forecast warned reserves will fall below the town's 10 percent policy minimum by FY28 under baseline assumptions.
Major cost drivers include 8 percent health insurance increases and contractual personnel growth reaching 6 percent annually. No final decision was recorded on deficit-reduction scenarios ranging from a 3 percent departmental cap to permanent OPEB trust drawdowns and parking lot delays before the May 4 Town Meeting.
