WAKEFIELD --

TOWN -- The Town Council, meeting Monday, Sept. 28, heard from Conservation Agent Ethan Fleming and Conservation Commission Chair Paul Wendelgass on the Open Space and Recreation Plan, which covers conservation land, parks and recreation facilities across town. The plan received conditional state approval in March 2024 and has since been revised to add parcels including Butler Ave, Arundel Ave, Lowell Street and Quannapowitt Parkway sites, and to note the new school on town maps. Officials said a finalized plan makes Wakefield eligible for state Department of Conservation Services grants, including parkland acquisition and renovation funding, through 2031. The council approved the letter of support unanimously, the last local step before the plan goes back to the state for final sign-off. Councilors Constance and Carney asked that the town track which grants are pursued and received under the plan going forward.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- The Wakefield Soccer Association's website shows registration open for its local fall programs, including Tots, Pre-K/Kindergarten and the Grade 1 & 2 Academy. TOPSoccer registration, for the association's program for players with disabilities, opened Sept. 3. The site also lists a Travel Coach preseason meeting at the Heritage Room at the Americal Center, and promotes an upcoming "WSA Night" event.
