School Committee · Meeting of March 25, 2026

Wakefield School Committee opened and closed a public hearing on a $58.6 million FY27 budget, a 5.73 percent increase. Math interventionist Corrine Keys told the board that elementary interventionists "are still being paid $25 an hour," a rate unchanged for at least 12 years. Superintendent Douglas Lyons said the district plans a new four-year-old classroom at Greenwood School after turning away 30 to 50 preschool applicants annually, funded through revolving accounts rather than the general budget.

The after-school activities fee will rise from $175 to $225 per student, still below the $350 regional average, to offset up to $400,000 in program costs. Member Thomas Markham, finance subcommittee chair, urged residents to email feedback before the committee's scheduled April 1 budget vote and the May 4 town meeting.
