Wakefield's School Committee approved the 2026-27 school calendar and reviewed $372,000 in capital requests Tuesday. Facilities staffer Tim O'Brien presented a three-tier capital list, including a $127,000 door-security upgrade, a new activity bus and a Greenwood School feasibility study, while a $350,000 Galvin Middle School fly-system replacement and a $15,000 Walton School door repair fell into tiers two and three. Superintendent Douglas Lyons said the district typically gets "70 or 80 percent" of its Tier 1 asks funded by the town's Capital Committee.
A state education department review found one corrective-action item, requiring clearer physical-restraint procedures, staff reported. The committee voted 7-0 to table a rewritten governance policy for a final vote Feb. 10, and member Thomas Markham reported the Town Council voted six to one to name four new high school spaces, including the Sean F. Beasley Memorial Track and Field.
