Hazardous waste collection set for Saturday in Wakefield
Wakefield's Public Works Department will hold a household hazardous waste collection event Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wakefield Memorial High School.
The Town of Wakefield announced Oct. 28 that its Public Works Department will hold a household hazardous waste collection event this Saturday, Oct. 31.
Residents can bring materials to Wakefield Memorial High School, located at 60 Farm St., between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Accepted items include pesticides, wood stripper, paint thinner, pool chemicals and antifreeze, along with a broader list of workbench, household, yard and garage products such as rust preventatives, drain cleaners, herbicides, gasoline, car batteries and used motor oil.
The event will not accept asbestos, ammunition, pharmaceuticals, commercial waste, biologically active, radioactive or explosive materials, lithium batteries, TVs or CRTs, or septage, which must be removed by a licensed hauler. Latex paint should be left to dry and placed with weekly trash pickup, and garbage will also be taken by regular trash pickup.
Residents who need to dispose of hazardous waste outside of local collection events can check the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection website for other disposal options.
Questions about the event can be directed to the Public Works Department at 781-246-6301, Ext. 4120.
