The Town of Wakefield announced Oct. 27 that it has extended the application deadline for residents interested in serving on a new Charter Review Committee.

The committee will examine Wakefield's existing Town Charter, the document that sets up the structure of municipal government and defines the powers of the Town Council, Town Administrator and other officials. Under Massachusetts law, municipal charters are meant to be reviewed periodically, and Wakefield reviews its charter on a 10-year cycle.

Members will review and discuss the charter's provisions, consider how it works in practice, weigh whether changes would be beneficial, and develop recommendations for the Town Council. The town said prior experience in municipal government is not required and encouraged residents with a range of backgrounds and perspectives to apply.

Interested residents must submit an application and resume to Sherri Dalton, chief of staff, through the Town Administrator's Office. Applications and resumes must be received by Friday, Nov. 6, 2026.

The Town Council anticipates making appointments to the Charter Review Committee in November 2026.
