Wakefield's Town Council voted 7-0 to let three farmers market vendors sample alcohol and chose not to pursue a two-year waiver blocking marijuana delivery into town.
Select Board · Meeting of May 18, 2026
Wakefield's Town Council voted 7-0 to let three farmers market vendors sample alcohol and chose not to pursue a two-year waiver blocking marijuana delivery into town. Town Counsel Tom Mullen said Wakefield has "traditional hostility to marijuana use" but called enforcement of a delivery ban nearly impossible. Bliss Point Meadery owner Jeff Benutty told the council his mead business samples at all 35 other markets it attends statewide except Wakefield's, asking members to "experience the flavor" through small tastings.
The council also voted 7-0 to let the Department of Public Works rebuild three deteriorating kiosks near Lake Quannapowitt with the Friends of Lake Quannapowitt, and gave preliminary 7-0 approval to an accessible picnic table at Colonel Connolly Park, with final approval expected July 20. Councilor Jonathan Chives was reelected chair, 6-0.
