Drug Take Back Day set for Oct. 24
The Wakefield Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will hold National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 1 Union Street, for safe disposal of unneeded medications.
The Wakefield Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will host National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wakefield's Public Safety Building, 1 Union Street, the town announced Oct. 19.
Residents can bring tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs for safe disposal. Collection sites cannot accept syringes, sharps or illicit drugs. Liquid products such as cough syrup should remain sealed in their original container with the cap tightly closed to prevent leakage.
The national event has run for sixteen years, helping Americans safely dispose of medications that are old, unwanted or expired in order to prevent drug misuse and abuse. Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal at more than 4,200 drop-off locations nationwide and, in partnership with local law enforcement, has removed more than 20.4 million pounds of medication from circulation since it began.
More information and additional collection sites can be found on the DEA's Take Back Day website.
