Purple Heart Day Lights, Library Talk Mark Wakefield's Week
Wakefield will illuminate Veterans Common this week to honor Purple Heart Day, while the Lucius Beebe Memorial Library hosted a Smithsonian curator for a summer author talk Tuesday afternoon.
TOWN HALL
The town announced that lights on Veterans Common will be turned on to commemorate Purple Heart Day, observed nationally on August 7, honoring service members wounded or killed in the line of duty. The town's News Flash also noted that the Council on Aging is hosting an all-ages Asset Protection Law Workshop on August 5, described as useful for seniors, baby boomers, and family members interested in estate planning and asset protection law.
Separately, the town reminded residents that the State Primary is set for September 1, 2026, with the deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation falling on August 21. Early in-person voting options will be available ahead of the primary.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The library welcomed Smithsonian curator Paula J. Johnson for an author talk Tuesday at 2 p.m., a conversation billed as touching on food history and culture. Wednesday afternoon brings the library's regular drop-in Tech Help session from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Lecture Hall, offering residents 15-minute one-on-one appointments.
Plaza Jazz returns Thursday evening at 6 p.m. with a performance by Matt Savage, a 31-year-old musician with more than two decades of professional experience, continuing the library's outdoor summer concert series.
