Town Begins Safety Upgrades At Oak, Green, Greenwood Intersection Monday
WAKEFIELD — Town crews begin safety upgrades Monday at the intersection of Oak Street, Green Street and Greenwood Avenue, the Town Council is weighing a resident request to name the Wakefield Memorial High School basketball court, and the library rolled out a slate of summer programs including a July 20 talk on Black Revolutionary War history.

On July 13, work begins to improve safety and traffic flow at the Oak Street, Green Street and Greenwood Avenue intersection, according to a Town Hall announcement. Officials did not release a completion timeline, but drivers should expect construction activity in the area starting Monday.
Separately, the Town Council has received a formal request for the naming of the Wakefield Memorial High School basketball court and has scheduled a public hearing on the matter, per the town's announcement.
The town also held a Fix-It Clinic July 12, a community event where residents could bring broken small electronics, furniture, textiles, eyeglasses and jewelry to volunteers for repair and advice.

The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library continues its summer adult programming lineup. Knitters, crocheters and embroiderers can join the weekly Crafty Crochet & Knitting Club July 17 at 11 a.m. in the library's lecture hall. On July 18 at 10 a.m., librarians lead a Beebe Walk & Talk through Breakheart Reservation's Wakefield entrance on Hemlock Road, pairing a nature-book discussion with a guided hike. And on July 20 at 7 p.m., independent scholar Gracia Collins Rich joins a virtual program on the Black experience of the American Revolution, part of the library's America's 250th series.
