Wakefield pumpkin drop set for Nov. 8
Wakefield's Department of Public Works and Environmental Sustainability Committee will hold the annual Pumpkin Drop on Nov. 8 at the Gas and Light Department parking lot, with a new wrapper recycling collection also offered.
The Town of Wakefield announced Oct. 23 that its Department of Public Works and Environmental Sustainability Committee, in partnership with Black Earth Compost, will hold the Annual Pumpkin Drop on Sunday, Nov. 8.
Residents can drop off jack-o-lanterns or other pumpkins for composting at the Gas and Light Department parking lot at 480 North Ave. Collection tarps will be set up from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The town asked residents to remove glitter, stickers, plastic decorations and candles or wax from pumpkins before drop-off. If a pumpkin is brought in a plastic bag, the bag should not be placed in the compost pile.
This year's central collection will replace the elementary school collections that were organized in past years.
The Environmental Sustainability Committee will also accept empty candy wrappers at the event in a special collection box for flexible plastic-based candy packaging, since these materials cannot be collected curbside.
Residents who want more information on weekly curbside compost collection with Black Earth can visit the compost info page or call the Public Works Department at 781-246-6301 ext. 4120.
